Integrated Sensing and Modelling for Intelligent and Secure Operation of End-to-end Packet-Optical Networks
The COPERNICO project aims at improving the operation of e2e multilayer, multi-segment, and multi-domain packet-optical networks by means of combining optical sensing and intelligent network automation based on artificial intelligence (AI). The proposed solution will be based into four fundamental systems that cooperate in a coordinated way: i) an integrated optical sensing and communications system for both network infrastructure and environmental monitoring; ii) a distributed platform for the collection and processing of telemetry and sensing data from heterogeneous network segments and domains; iii) a multi-technology packet-optical network digital twin for resilient network operation integrating multiple per-domain digital twins; and iv) an intelligent and secure distributed control system aiming at assisting network control for enhanced near-real time operation. The deployment of different layers of security including optical sensing for security and security for AI will lead to robust and reliable intelligent network control targeting operational objectives such as efficient use of resources.
